The Rock Report - March 21, 2008

With the Top 10 announced, the blogs are heating up with predictions and odds… We here at the DC Fan Team have been scanning the web day and night to gauge reaction to DC’s performances and we are very excited to report that many (if not most) blogs and sites are putting DC in the top 3 for the season!  Here’s one of our favorite written reactions to DC’s performance of Day Tripper this week:

“Simon called his performance of “Day Tripper” predictable. If by predictable, he meant Cook delivered another solid performance showcasing his vocal and musical abilities (including a nice rift using a talk box), then I completely agree. Except, I don’t think he meant that at all. Any “predictability” or “smugness” was offset by Cook’s use of the words “euphoric”, “epitome”, and “appreciative” during his interview. Shares of DC remained even at 85.00.”

From Blue Springs, to Tulsa, to LA and now the World!!  David has made the Top 10 and YOU can see him live this summer on the Idol tour. As visions of DC dance in our heads, check out what Entertainment Weekly had to say about David this week:

“…David Cook’s rendition of ”Day Tripper” was inspired by Whitesnake’s cover… this cover found Rocker David singing totally in tune and, as Randy pointed out, delivering his number as if it were part of his own concert, rather than one-eleventh of a massive televised talent show. “

Who knew we here at the DC Fan Team were closeted White Snake fans?  Not us, but we sure have been listening to that song over and over and OVER again..   Thanks to all who voted last night - here’s what the web is saying about David today:

He took on the Whitesnake version of this song and I think he modernized it enough so that it didn’t have late 80s early 90s dripping all over it. He clearly LOVES to perform. He rocked with his guitar (and the voice box?). He sang the heck out of the song. He comes off as a pro in a good way

The Rock Report - BREAKING NEWS!

This just in:

From CNN:  “Idol Contestant Cook is the real thing…”

TVGuide.com reports: “A New David is King!!! Fueled by his compelling performance last week, David Cook claimed an early lead and despite a late surge by Archie, emerged on top with 28 percent of the vote.”

That means David is #1 in the Power Rankings going into the fight for the Top 10!!  Congratulations, and everybody vote!

We here at the DC Fan Team hope everyone had a great weekend and that you are enjoying your St. Patty’s Day festivities!  Since we know you’re looking for reasons to get through your day, here’s our favorite media quote for today:

“Wow. Great modern rock take on this song – that was outstanding. I could definitely hear that on the radio in the car on the way to work tomorrow – and I’d turn up the volume. David was also comfortable on the stage and played to the audience. He chose a great song for him and he was brilliant. 10.”

Our favorite quote for today:

“David Cook came out and blew the roof off with yet ANOTHER modernization of an old tune. He turned a Beatles classic into an Alternative-Rock masterpiece. And let me say, since we’re supposed to compare him to Chris Daughtry, David Cook definitely has found better use of his Mic Stand than Chris did for his….”

The Rock Report - March 13, 2008

Safe for another week!  Congratulations to DC for making the top 11 on American Idol.

Here’s what people are saying about our favorite rocker today:

“For weeks I’ve been declaring this competition as the Battle of the Davids. But so far, David Cook is winning. Taking a risk in changing the arrangement of his song, just like his predecessors Chikezie and Carly, Cook saw it all pay off…overall he rocked it out! Once the song picked up, you could see him gain confidence. It was fun watching him keep his winning streak alive, and surprising to see him actually smile after it was over!”

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY LOVES DAVID COOK!

“…but the one contestant who commanded my attention better than Carly was David Cook. The former barkeep took that stage with unwavering confidence, and instantly made me feel like I was watching him in a solo concert rather than in a televised singing competition. And this is just week one of the finals.

Ah, David Cook. The male rocker was the only Idol contestant I saw give the
singer before him (Carly) a big ol’ congratulatory hug, and he was the only
one to leave the stage to meet up with a member of his entourage (i.e. the
guy in the green shirt and dark-rimmed glasses, who I reckon is his brother)
and get a big ol’ congratulatory hug. That family reunion was presaged by a
quick, but telling, moment: Just after Ryan delivered David Cook’s 866
number and took us to the break, Cook looked out over the audience, clasped
his hand to his mouth, and his eyes briefly welled up with tears. You expect
that sort of sentiment from a sweetheart like Brooke White, but out of Cook,
well, let’s say the guy surprised me last night in more ways than one.”

The Rock Report - March 12, 2008

Who knew we loved “Eleanor Rigby” so much?  We here at the DC Fan Team have been playing DC’s rendition on repeat since early last night, so before we finally crash from too much coffee and rock and roll, here’s today’s media quote:

Move over Daughtry, there’s a new rocker in town and his name is David Cook. His version of “Eleanor Rigby” sent chills up and down my spine and straight into my soul… I really felt an emotional connection when he sang, “look at all the lonely people.” Another iTunes must-download.”
