The Rock Report - April 3, 2008

We here at the DC Fan Team have finally recovered our shattered nerves after David’s adventure to the hospital Tuesday night ( though our Creative Director is still “recovering” at home in bed… we smell a rat…) We’re glad to hear he’s okay and to celebrate, we are giving you what we think is our all-time favorite media quote for DC so far!

“The rocker everyone is talking about, David Cook, took a path I wasn’t expecting when he sang the Dolly Parton song Little Sparrow. I thought for sure he would do a cover of the White Stripes cover Jolene.

Anyway…wow. As if you didn’t know already, this kid can sing. He hit the high notes, harmonized, and did just about everything right with this song. Cook is going to have to do something terrible in order for him not to win this competition. Between his rock songs and the falsetto on this one, I think he’s got the competition locked down.”

The Rock Report - April 2, 2008

David finally had a chance to clear the air last night about where the previous song arrangements came from but at the end of the night most people were just talking about his hair.  It seems that the ladies love the shorter hair and we at The DC Fan Team love that he stuck his hand over his head and eye to remind us what the old hair style looked like (just in case we forgot).  Nevertheless, even MTV is talking about our favorite rocker…

“In the night’s first fake “real” moment, Ryan and David Cook “chatted” about where the rocker finds all his arrangements, thus quieting all the hullabaloo surrounding the contestant and effectively shutting up Doxology’s four fans. (I guess this means Blake Lewis now has more time to badmouth Sanjaya.) As an added bonus, David Cook said he’d be rocking his own arrangement of “Little Sparrow,” although I’m fairly certain that Mr. Mister rocked out to this song on their ‘88 Kyrie Forever! Tour. (Joking, but now that I mention it …) When all was sung and done, I wasn’t sure which surprise left me happier: David’s new haircut, or the debut of his gorgeous falsetto.”

Tempting as it may be, we here at the DC Fan Team have tied our hands behind our backs in an attempt to refrain from posting obnoxiously bogus David news as an April Fools Joke… but don’t breathe easy quite yet. The day has just begun and we have to keep ourselves amused, you know. We might just change our minds. But, for now, while our committment to providing you with legitimate DC praise is strong, here’s today’s quote:

“David Cook is the one to beat. He is miles ahead of everyone in this competition. Everything works for him - his technical skills, his artistry, his charisma, his intelligence. Truly the best I have ever seen on this show. A real star.”

The Rock Report - March 31, 2008

Happy Monday to all! We hope you enjoyed your weekend- there certainly was no shortage of DC news over the past few days, and our eyes are the happiest they’ve been during this competition. No press is bad press (at least that’s what our creative director says) and Good press is even better! Here’s what the Hollywood Gossip had to say this weekend about our boy DC:

We’re proud to present the tenth-ever American Idol Power Poll on The Hollywood Gossip…
(This is) how we gauge the chances of various contestants:

1. David Cook: He may not look as hardcore as Chris Daughtry, but this rocker is as original and creative as anyone in the show’s history not named Blake Lewis. For taking risks and appearing genuinely flattered by the praise he receives, David Cook sits comfortably in our top spot.

The Rock Report - March 28, 2008

As we head into a sunny spring weekend, all is right with the world. David is the #1 download on iTunes, The Idol race has been re-called and Archie is no longer king, and The DC Fan Team is going out to celebrate!  Nothing makes us happier than to share the DC love with the world, so we leave you for the next few days with this:

David Cook’s quickly established himself as one of the most interesting contestants in this season of American Idol. A few week’s ago he wowed me with his bold take on Lionel Richie’s Hello. Now he’s done it again with a daring rendition of Billie Jean.

Many contestants would have struggled to remain relevant while singing 80s standards. But not David. His dramatic reinterpretations connect with his young fan base, and impress those of us old enough to remember the originals.

David Cook is single-handedly transforming American Idol from a karaoke contest to a credible musical showcase. And that can only be a good thing.

The Rock Report - March 27, 2008

Well, it’s official: our job here at the DC Fan Team is done. Everyone has FINALLY caught up to us and realized what we’ve known all along, and we’re just excited we can head into early retirement as prophets and David Cook acolytes… (KIDDING!)  It’s no secret that DC’s performance Tuesday was the best in Idol history, and to prove it, here’s what Simon Cowell had to say to Entertainment Weekly about it:

“…I’ve got a feeling this year something strange could happen, particularly after what happened with David Cook last night. Because, I’ve got to tell you, watching it back, this performance he did on “Billie Jean,” in my opinion, was in a different league to anything we’ve heard on the season so far. It was so much better, [chuckles] he kind of made some of the other performances seem ridiculous. But I’m glad! He was smart — I know where he got the arrangement of the song from, but that doesn’t really matter. He was brilliant! “

Not that the DC Fan Team condones gambling, but folks, we’ve got to come clean with you here..  We watched Oceans 11 a few times,  tied up our Creative Director, blew up the DC Fan Team Safe (which contained exactly $3.00) and flew ourselves out west for a “What happens in Reno, stays in Reno” vacation (couldn’t quite afford Vegas). Anyway, it looks like it all worked out for us in the end - here’s what Gambling 911 had to say about David this week:

David Cook to Become New Favorite to Win American Idol

With all the early buzz surrounding that other David (Archuleta), Gambling911.com has long been predicting that rocker David Cook could win this season’s American Idol as an early 50 to 1 odds underdog (paying $50 for every $1 bet).

Following this week’s incredible and very original version of Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean”, David Cook will likely become the new favorite to win it all.   He had been listed with 3 to 1 odds heading into Tuesday night’s performance show

“Absolutely amazing!’ declared our own American Idol insider, Carrie Stroup, from her Los Angeles digs Wednesday morning.  “I was completely blown away by Cook’s performance.  It would not shock any of us to see him win the whole thing.”

Leading up to this week, caustic Judge Simon Cowell had touched upon the idea that Cook could win based on talent alone provided this season’s American Idol was not just a “popularity contest”.  After Tuesday night’s daring performance, Judge Randy Jackson reiterated Simon’s assessment.  “

The Rock Report - March 25, 2008

Tonight the Top 10 go head to head, and we’ve got a feeling here at the DC Fan Team that it’s going to be a good night for our boy! The blogosphere is heating up, and the decision is unanimous (at least in our heads)- David is our American Idol!!

“And this year’s American Idol is …

David Cook: Surprised? Don’t be. He should have had you at “Hello.” At first blush, Cook is a methodical rock singer, and he does front his own band. But he’s also a master at picking songs that suit his voice and shock and awe viewers and judges alike. Can you imagine the lead singers of Linkin Park, Maroon Five or Matchbox 20 attempting a Lionel Richie song? Cook did, and his “Hello” has been the highlight of the “Idol” season thus far. He was equally adept, if not as far-fetched, in adapting “Eleanor Rigby,” “Daytripper” and All Right Now.” I sense he’ll handle country and soul week equally as well. Ladies and gentlemen, the 2008 American Idol is … David Cook.”

The Rock Report - March 24, 2008

It’s official - the Media LOVES David Cook! There were so many juicy sound bites to pick from today, we didn’t quite know what to do with ourselves. Nevertheless, we here at the DC Fan Team are dedicated to bringing you the best of all things DC, so we narrowed it down, and this is officially our fav for the weekend:

“There is something to be said for being the underdog,” he says. “Look at
[’Idol’ contestant] David Cook this season. He’s paced himself very well,
and every week we see more and more good things from him instead of the same
old thing we see from Archuleta or even Carly Smithson.”
