The Rock Report - May 6, 2008

Tuesday Tuesday, our favorite day of the week!  As we wait with bated breath for what will undoubtedly be a DC-slaughter tonight on Idol, we bring you a funny little quip from New York Magazine:

We’re actually excited that he (David) could pull out songs like “Love Will Tear Us Apart” and “The Weight” and smack the other three contestants around the stage with them. Mark it down: This is a David Cook week, and unless he accidentally strangles himself with the cord of his electric guitar, he finishes on top.”

  1. Where is the New Yorker getting these songs? Are they what David is going to sing tonight? Or, has he sung them already? If so when?

    Confusing.

  2. WOOHOO! Can’t wait. Whatever David chooses, it will be right for him and he will KILL tonight. In my opinion, EVERY one of his performances has been in a totally different league than the other contestants’ performances. And he can SING, in tune, with control, with a great range, with some expressiveness & belief. Well that’s my humble opinion anyway. Love you, David. Hope all is well.

  3. Can I get an AMEN??

  4. AMEN!

  5. I agree with this quote 100%!

78closegate, I think the author was just tossing out suggestions of songs that David *could* have done. Those aren’t his song choices for tonight, though.

  6. Well, who was the rock-n-roller tonight? I think there was only ONE. Yeah, he could’ve shown off his vocal skills a bit more on a different 1st song. I think he was trying to do something different than expected. I love his singing, pretty much no matter what he sings! Who should win a recording contract at the end of this? Whose album would you buy and listen to over & over again? Who would you go see live? There has been nobody on AI other than DAVID COOK who is the answer to ALL of those for me. (MAYBE Michael Johns too…maybe…because David seemed to like him!) Oh and that would be in all SEVEN SEASONS, please. David Cook. Yep, he’s IT. Love you, David! Hope all is well with you & your family, sweetheart.

  7. I wanted him to do Love Will Tear Us Apart sooooooo bad! That and Smoke On The Water.

  8. Yes, David, not great song choice with the first one- we know you can sound like Duran Duran if you want, but we want you to sound like DC!!!

I have to admit DA was not bad tonight (he did not put me to sleep completely) but you’re just in a different league!

  9. After Baba O’Reilly I couldn’t remember any of the other performances including DC’s first song. He burned it up and tore it down!

  10. Let me be the first to say that no I am not a Duran Duran fan and I never like Hungry Like the Wolf….til NOW! It wasn’t stellar like some of his other performances but he still kicked ass. Now Baba O’Riley…..that was stellar. Honestly though, I think he could sing the phone book and I’d melt. And Kath….I completely agree. I never bought any other Idol or runner up CDs…they were given to me as gifts. I will be in the store on the day his comes out. If he doesn’t get a contract after Idol, there is something definitely wrong with record producers. He is amazing, an intellectual, has sex appeal, can be really gritty or sweet and someone I’d spend all of my hard earned money on! I love you, David, and I wish you and your family all the best. You deserve it, keep on rocking!

  11. Thanks coolshades. I kinda thought that’s what it might be after I read it a couple of times.

Loved Baba O’Riley. Like Rebecca, I couldn’t remember anything before or after that. I really, really hope the shits at itunes or AI put Baba O’Riley out in studio version. They have not put All I Really Need is You out in studio version and I heard that they probably won’t.

I have been reading the stats from dialidol, Vegas and the other site I can’t remember the name of. They all have our beloved David at #1. I love him and want him to win so much.

  12. Sorry, I spelled Baba O’Riley wrong. I’m just still all discombobulated.

  13. That’s no biggie, Rayne. I didn’t even know that was the name of the song…I just know it’s the theme song for CSI: New York lol. I need my David Cook fix……I got to see and hear him last night…but I’m fiending right now.

  14. It appears that they only release one of the two songs as a studio version every week. They probably don’t have enough time to record two different songs, so they just pick one.

Most people I’ve talked to would prefer a studio version of Baba O’Riley over Hungry Like the Wolf…but I’m going to buy it regardless. And this is coming from someone who, like Rebecca, has never been a fan of the original Hungry Like the Wolf.

  15. I would certainly hope that he would record Baba O’Riley instead of the hungry wolf song. Baba O’Riley is such a classic anthem of a generation, but timeless enough to be the anthem of any generation. Pearl Jam frequently does this song live and I always love it but, no offense Ed, PJ never made the hair on my neck stand straight up like Mr. Cook.

  16. OMG. Get the studio version of Hungry Like the Wolf! David ROCKS it! I was wanting Baba also but I was getting whatever he would give us, no matter. I didn’t really like the song when it came out. But now I do! David’s version is hot and rocking!

  17. You’re right, Kath…I just bought and listened to the studio recording, and it’s really good.

  18. Kath and coolshades right on. HLTW absolutely rocks.

David Cook passing gas sounds better than DA singing anything.
